Rake the Town

The Workers on Wheels Annual Rake the Town Event will take place on October 27th – 29th 2022.

  • Sioux Falls: October 27-29
  • Harrisburg: October 28-29
  • Brandon: October 28
  • Tea: October 28-29

This city wide event serves individuals within the Sioux Falls city limits, Brandon, Harrisburg & Tea over the age of 60 who do not have family available in the area to help with their yard work and are not financially or physically able to do the work themselves. Individuals under 60 with a documented physical disability are also eligible.

Homeowners:

  • Call Active Generations office at 333-3317 and ask to be added to the Rake the Town list or register with the link below.
  • Even if you registered last year, you must register this year AGAIN to have your yard raked in October.
  • We try to accommodate all requests, but assignments are made on a first come, first served basis, so early registration is encouraged.
  • Registration Deadline: October 21st 2022

Volunteers:

  • We are seeking enthusiastic volunteer groups of co-workers, students, church members, service groups, and friends and family to help the elderly in our community.
  • Teams supply their own rakes. WOW provides the leaf bags.
  • Teams can register to rake as many yards as they feel they can complete.
  • There is no set time to begin raking on October 27th – 29th. 
  • It is the team leader’s responsibility to set the time to rake.
  • Only team leaders need to register.
  • Register by calling 333-3317.

Rain Date: Note: Many teams rake rain or shine, snow or sleet and dress for the weather.  However, if the team can’t rake the day of the event, the group is responsible to contact the homeowner to make arrangements for a different time.

Once a team accepts an assignment, they are committing to raking that yard. If inclement weather happens, team leaders should schedule a Rain Date and rake their yard assignments as soon as possible. Remember, the homeowner is counting on you to rake their yard!
