November Member Spotlight – Terry Bong

This November, we’re excited to shine our Member Spotlight on Terry Bong, a lifelong athlete from Canton, South Dakota. Terry’s passion for staying active started early, participating in football, basketball, track, and baseball throughout high school. His athleticism continued in college, where he ran track for the University of South Dakota.

Terry’s love for competition didn’t end after school. In 2002, he began competing in the South Dakota Senior Games, where he’s been a standout ever since. His wide range of events includes Badminton, Bean Bags, Pool, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis, and even Horseshoes in the past. At the recent regional qualifier, Terry qualified for all the events he entered but has chosen Badminton as his focus for the 2025 National Senior Games in Des Moines, Iowa.

This August, Terry was inducted into the South Dakota Senior Games Hall of Fame, a testament to his dedication and passion for the games.

When asked what advice he’d give to others looking to get active, Terry keeps it simple: “Just do it! Have fun and don’t get too serious.”

Terry’s journey is an inspiring reminder that it’s never too late to stay active and enjoy the thrill of competition. We congratulate Terry on his recent induction into the Hall of Fame and wish him the best of luck at the National Senior Games!
