This January, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Sharon Fitzsimonds, a beloved member and volunteer at Active Generations who has made an indelible mark on our crafting community.
Born in Brookings and raised in Harrisburg, Sharon’s life journey has taken her to California, New Mexico, and Nevada, where she worked as a secretary for a gold mining company. Three years ago, she joined Active Generations, quickly becoming a cornerstone of our crafting community.
When Sharon first arrived, she and another dedicated member rolled up their sleeves to transform the crafting room into the organized haven it is today. Their efforts have ensured that members can easily find supplies, enjoy a creative atmosphere, and focus on their projects.
Sharon’s artistic talents are as diverse as her life experiences. She is skilled in knitting, sewing, embroidery, creating pine needle baskets, and her personal favorite—painting intricate Indian motifs on gourds and other items. Her beautiful work not only showcases her exceptional creativity but also inspires others to explore their artistic potential.
Currently, several members of the crafting club are working on a delightful project: making rag rugs. These handmade creations are a testament to the club’s vibrant spirit and camaraderie. Sharon’s guidance and expertise have been instrumental in helping members tackle new techniques and share in the joy of crafting together.
We are so grateful to Sharon for her passion, generosity, and dedication to the Active Generations community. Her contributions remind us that creativity and connection go hand in hand, and her efforts continue to enrich the lives of everyone she meets.
Thank you, Sharon, for all you do to make Active Generations a more colorful and connected place!
