James and Kerrine Oshanyk joined the Active Generations family just a year ago after relocating from Bismarck to be closer to their loved ones. Since settling into their new community, they quickly made a significant impact as volunteers at our East Campus, where they serve as Dining Hosts. Always ready with warm smiles and helping hands, James and Kerrine assist members who may need a bit of extra support, whether by carrying trays, helping clear tables, or tidying up the dining area to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience.
When asked what inspired them to volunteer, the Oshanyks shared their enthusiasm for connecting with others in their new community. “We wanted to get to know people here,” they explained, and their passion for building connections shines through in every interaction. Their kindness and commitment to fostering a welcoming environment have made them beloved fixtures at the East Campus.
Outside of Active Generations, James and Kerrine keep a fulfilling routine that balances family, faith, and simple joys. They begin each day with breakfast together at McDonald’s—a cherished tradition that starts their mornings off right. On Monday mornings, they attend bible study, followed by Wednesday church services, which provide both spiritual enrichment and connection with their faith community. The couple also makes time for family, especially cheering on their granddaughter at her weekly volleyball games.
James and Kerrine embody the spirit of community service, and we’re grateful for the warmth and care they bring to their role at Active Generations. Their dedication reminds us all of the impact small acts of kindness can have in making our community a brighter place.
