Elder Law Series–Administration of a Revocable Trust After the Death or Disability of the Maker
Nov 9 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Present by Charles L. Dorothy, Counselor at Law

Charles L. Dorothy will discuss the responsibility of the successor trustee named in the declaration of trust once the maker of the trust is totally disabled or dies.

He will discuss how, in the case of total disability of the maker, the responsibilities must occur in conjunction with the administration of the living arrangement and health care provisions of the maker’s Power of Attorney.

He will discuss the many issues that may come up regarding health care and living arrangements, such as whether the elderly person should no longer (a) drive, (b) handle his/her checkbook, (c) handle his/her bills, (d) handle his/her credit cards, (e) enter into contracts, (f) continue charitable or other giving, and (g) make changes to his/her will or Power of Attorney.  Further, he will discuss whether the elderly person should (a) continue to live at home with some help from a home care agency or person, (b) move in with a child, (c) move to an assisted living center, or (d) move to a nursing home.

He will discuss the use of mediation and counseling to address conflicts regarding these issues between the maker of the trust and the successor trustee.

Fall Prevention Seminar
Nov 12 @ 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Falls among older adults are a serious problem, and a bad fall can have a huge impact on an otherwise healthy and independent life.  The good news, however, is that falls can be prevented.  By doing a little planning, this threat can be reduced or eliminated, giving  you and your loved ones years of independent living.  We will discuss risk factors for falls, concrete steps to take to reduce falls and how we may work together to minimize risk factors.  Our Physical Therapist will also be available after the presentation for questions and a free walker safety check.  Join us for this time together to learn how we may prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.

The presenter will be Sharon Bethke, Physical Therapist with Sanford Home Health and Hospice Services.
